Electromagnetic lock
An electromechanical lock is a 'mechanical locking device with electrical control of components or linkages e.g. solenoid or motor lock' in comparison to for example a locking device with electric control of it main elements such as maglock.(Code of practice: Hardware for fire and escape doors, Issue 5, published by DHF and GAI in November 2024)
Such a lock works by creating a magnetic field when supplied with electricity or powered up, causing the electromagnet and armature plate to become very strongly attracted to one other in order to keep a door firmly shut and preventing opening until the power supply is adjusted. This is a different approach to for example an electromechanical lock which is mechanical locking device with electrical control of it components or linkages such as a solenoid or motor lock.
